FSA: Beware of peepul preetending to be cats

IMPORTUNT FEELINE SERVICE ANNOWNSMINT:

I was a bit horryfide tonite to reed this artikul by Christie Keith in SFGATE abowt PEEPUL online hoo pretend to be CATS!!!

Heer's how the artikul starts:

In a sea of the über-hip at Austin's South by Southwest Festival last week, I was talking to SXSW panelist and blogger Liz Henry and mentioned MeowChatters, people who role-play online as their cats.

So did she laugh scornfully and make fun of the crazy cat ladies? She did not. She nodded, her eyes lighting up, and encouraged me to add information about the phenomenon to her wiki on fictional blogging.

Her curiosity made me think back to its beginnings. I first became aware of the existence of MeowChat in the mid-90s, when I was running the Pet Care Forum on America Online, but the exact moment a cat first learned to use a computer is not known.

I'm kidding, of course.

MeowChatters are people who create online identities in the names of their cats, and interact on Internet forums and e-mail lists and in chat rooms. The humans behind the cats are a surprising mix, mostly women and a few men. They include college students and retired grandparents, high-tech workers and humane society directors and even a doctor or two -- and, of course, more than a few crazy cat ladies. ... read more

I shur hope nobuddy I know is reely a hyooman preetending to be a cat. I wood feel so VIOLAYTID!

KLIK HEER to leeve comments on Christie Keith's blog.

We was insensed (whatever that means) at the accusations of this article! First of all, our beans do not telepathically read our minds, we are furry good at dictating directly fer them to type fer us. Any bean who loves cats can talk wif their cats - duh!

Secondly, da author went undercover, pretending to be a cat, to get on da "inside" of this story - thusly, ruining her own credibility, showing SHE is a faker!

Maybe, she is furry jealous that she doesn't have her own cat who blogs. She lacks sensitivity, empathy, creativity, and could possibly use a little therapy herself for not believing in us as REAL!

She probably doesn't believe in Santa or da Easter Bunny either - pffft! Maybe she just needs a good nap or some good nip!

Hmmm, I don't blame the beans for wanting to be cats, but I think it is very wrong of them to do a pretend cat blog. I want to assure all of my friends that Pixie is REAL and I am very REAL too. Skeezix, thank you for getting the word out, this is a very very serious issue.

Geez louise... some newspapers will print *anything*... and what good does it do? It spreads FUD (not to be confused with FOOD) about whether the cat you've been corresponding with for months is really a cat, or is in reality only a human pretending to be one.

Pablo's right -- we're cats, we have heightened senses, and we can detect a phony a mile away. No need to overreact. Thanks for the info, Skeezix.

Skeezix, I'm with you. I often wonder who the pretenders are. I don't fancy fakers. I don't care much for liars and I'm not one to be manipulated.

Even though I love my Mommy and Daddy and a few other humans, we all know I'm really a cat! I mean is it possible for humans to be so clever, witty and ya know, hysterically funny. I'm so glad that I do my own pictures. If I had to depend on humans for that.....well, let's not even think about that! (chills) I mean, I know you're really a cat, duh!!! Come on, who doesn't?

This is another conspiracy theory (like the ones about Roswell, Marilyn Monroe and Princess Di). Everyone knows humans are not smart enough to write interesting and provocative blogs - you would know instantly if a human was pretending to be a cat. Cat Blogs are stimulating and interesting and one way to prove it is to look at the pictures. You would be able to tell instantly if it was a human dressed up as a cat. FAZ

Once again you've proven that you're the "go to" guy and the final authority on everything happening in the cat blogging world, Skeez. Imagine, someone thinking we're not real cats. I'm real, Max is real, Tipper is real and so is Misty!

George

P.S. Mom just finished reading your story in the WATK book, and to quote the great JH, she was "laffin & laffin".

Yes, I agree with Kimo and Sabi -- any bean who loves their kitties can talk with them. And me and my sisters are all most definitely cats, kitties, felines, Ballicai (as our mommy and daddy call us). We aren't hoomans in catsuits. The very idea!

Thanks for getting the word out, Skeezix!

When did a human ever become intelligent enough to impersonate a cat? That really is a ridiculous yarn and I shall pay no attention to it. My humans are far too stupid to engage in such activities - they are oftentimes cooking for me whilst I am updating my blog. I find it highly amusing that any human could even muster the thought! Everyone knows slaves have such tiny idiotic brains they can barely even understand feline instruction.

The nerve of some humans! The closest our mom got to pretending to be a cat is when she dressed up as one of us for Halloween. (We had given her permission in advance.) Of course, she didn't fool anyone.
